Member and Guest Behavior

These rules were formed to ensure all members and guests have a safe and positive experience. We ask that all members and guests refrain from yelling, using profanity, banging weights, or engaging in any other disruptive behavior while in the facility. Any violation of this or any other policies listed in this book may result in exclusion from the facility.

From time to time, Dakotah! Sport and Fitness may adopt and/or amend guidelines and policies including those not herein covered, to support the safety and enjoyment of its members and guests.

24-Hour Access

Dakotah! Sport and Fitness offers 24-hour, limited facility access for a small monthly fee. For more information, stop by the membership desk or call 952.496.6872.

Activities, Leagues, and Lessons

We offer a wide variety of activities, leagues, and lessons for adult and junior members. Hard-copy registration booklets are mailed quarterly to Dakotah! Sport and Fitness members. Additional information can be found under Schedules.

Members may register for any of the activities, leagues, or lessons beginning on the specified registration day and until the close date of the class. All classes are available to members and guests on a first-come, first-served basis. A cancellation fee will be assessed for withdrawals.

Withdrawing from an activity, league, or lesson after registering for that event will be handled in the following way:

  • Withdrawing from the time of registration to the start of the first event will be assessed a $10 cancellation fee.
  • Withdrawing between the first and second events will be assessed a $10 cancellation fee and the pro-rated value of the first event.
  • No refund will be issued if withdrawing after the second event.

Aquatic Center

Lifeguards are on duty during posted hours only. Aquatic schedules are available on dakotahsport.com and our Dakotah! Sport and Fitness app, and are also posted within the facility. Open swim is offered to all members and guests.

Children ages 9-13 must pass a swim test in order to be unaccompanied by an adult. Otherwise, an adult must be on the pool deck at all times. Children ages 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult in the water at all times.

For safety reasons, children ages 13 and under are not allowed in the hot tub. Lap swim is reserved for those who are nonstop lap swimming. Junior members must be at least the age of 14 to participate in lap swimming. When a lifeguard is not present, lap swim is reserved for adults ages 18+ only.

A variety of swim lessons for ages 6 months and over is available throughout the year. Private swimming lessons are also available—call 952.496.6891 for more information.

For the safety of swimmers and lifeguards, all swimmers must be dressed in proper swimwear. No cutoff shorts, undergarments, T-shirts, cover-ups, or any other clothing is allowed due to the following reasons:

  • The fibers from these types of clothing clog pool filter baskets.
  • The dyes and detergents used in these types of clothing change the pH of the water, creating an unsanitary swimming environment.
  • Undergarments contain bodily fluids and detergent residue that can cause an unsanitary swimming environment.

All incontinent swimmers (adults and children) must wear swim diapers/nonbiodegradable diapers made for swimming as well as proper swimwear—no exceptions.

We allow U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal flotation devices only—no exceptions. Approved life jackets are available for your use in the pool area.

POOL MEASUREMENTS

1 length = 25 yards 66 lengths = 1 mile

Attire

Appropriate athletic shoes are required. No street shoes, boots, sandals, socks, or bare feet allowed in workout areas, gym floors or courts, group fitness classrooms, or the group fitness classrooms.

Please avoid the use of heavy perfume or cologne. Clean workout clothing is required. Any unsatisfactory (visible or non-visible) hygiene condition will be addressed by management, and corrective action may be taken. Management will determine if shorts, sweatpants, T-shirts, tank tops, and spandex accessories are appropriate. Belt buckles, jeans, or loose jewelry are not allowed in workout areas. Cutoff shorts, T-shirts, or any other unauthorized swimwear is not allowed in the pool at any time—no exceptions.

All other clothing and shoes must be kept in lockers. Free lockers are available in all locker rooms with the use of your membership wristband. Please keep all valuables at home. Dakotah! Sport and Fitness is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.

If any of the above policies are not followed, you may be asked to leave the area or leave Dakotah! Sport and Fitness.

Birthday Parties

Dakotah! Sport and Fitness members may book and hold parties in the facility. Members or guests may not conduct a birthday party at Dakotah! Sport and Fitness without permission and a reservation. Please call 952.496.6855 for additional information and policies or to make a reservation.

Charging Privileges

Members may arrange to have charging privileges placed on their membership account. Any service, program fee, or item offered at Dakotah! Sport and Fitness for purchase may be charged. Members must present their membership wristband in order to make a charge. Any charges made by dependents will be the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian. Charges to your account will show up on the following month’s statement.

Common Areas

There are several common areas at Dakotah! Sport and Fitness. Members should use common courtesy when using these areas. Please use headphones when listening to mobile devices, tablets, or laptops.

Court Fees

There is no fee for squash or racquetball court times for members. Courts can be reserved for one hour up to six days in advance, with only one court being reserved at a time. Please check in at the fitness desk for your reserved court time. Unclaimed courts will be forfeited five minutes after the reservation time. Racquetball and squash rackets are available at the fitness desk for members.

Dakotah! Bowling

Dakotah! Bowling is located below the Dakotah! Ice Center. Dakotah! Sport and Fitness members ages 14+ are welcome without adult supervision. Nonmembers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

No outside food or beverages are allowed. The only exception is cake and/or ice cream for birthday parties with prior notice. Please call 952.496.6886 for additional information and policies or to make a reservation.

Dakotah! Ice Center

Open skate is available to all Dakotah! Sport and Fitness members and guests. Schedules are available on dakotahsport.com and our Dakotah! Sport and Fitness app, and are also posted within the facility. Because of hockey games, tournaments, and special events, the open skate schedule is subject to change without notice. All junior member guidelines apply.

Members receive complimentary open skate admission. Check in at the Dakotah! Ice Center desk and show your membership wristband for this benefit. Ice skate rentals are also available for a small fee.

Dakotah! Sport and Fitness App

Dakotah! Sport and Fitness offers a free app available through the Apple and Google app stores. The app features class schedules, a check-in bar code, check-in history, general account information, registration for activities, courts, HydroMassage, personal training, and more. Stop by the membership desk or call 952.496.6872 for assistance.

Fitness Floor Rules

  • Nonmembers under the age of 18 are not allowed in the fitness area under any circumstances; this also applies to infants.
  • Please be courteous at all times.
  • Allow others to use strength training equipment during your rest periods.
  • Keep hands and feet away from all moving equipment and weight stacks.
  • Report any equipment problem immediately to a staff member.
  • Do not attempt to repair or adjust any equipment that has malfunctioned.
  • Use wipes provided on the workout floor to wipe off equipment or benches after each use.
  • If you are unfamiliar with the use of any equipment, please ask a staff member for assistance.
  • Strip all bars down to zero weight, and rack weights after each use.
  • Use a spotter when attempting maximum weight.
  • Collars and clips are to be used for “free bar” lifting.
  • Do not move equipment.
  • Please use headphones when listening to mobile devices, tablets, or laptops.

FitnessOnDemand™ is a market-leading delivery platform of virtual fitness. Through FitnessOnDemand™ at Dakotah! Sport and Fitness, curated fitness content from the world’s leading fitness experts is instantly available to members across in-studio screens and anywhere in the club via mobile streaming to a device. Content covers everything from high-intensity workouts to functional fitness for strength and mobility to wind down, stretching, and relaxation after a workout. The FitnessOnDemand™ studio can be found on the second level of Dakotah! Sport and Fitness. Please see posted signs for usage guidelines.

Food and Beverages

No food or beverages—except water or sports drinks (with spill-proof lids)—are allowed beyond the main level. All other food or beverages must be consumed in the lobby on the first level.

For your convenience, beverages may be purchased from a vending machine in the lower level by the towel desk.

Golden Age Membership

We offer a discounted membership for individuals or couples ages 59+. This membership has a limited check-in time of Monday–Friday, 5am-2pm, Saturday-Sunday, 12pm-8pm. Golden Age members may pay a $5 guest fee if they wish to use any area of the club outside of these specified hours. Stop by the membership desk or call 952.496.6872 for more information.

Group Fitness

Group Fitness schedules are available online and our Dakotah! Sport and Fitness app, and are also posted within the facility. Schedules are subject to change. Members ages 12+ who fit the necessary equipment are welcome to participate. Children ages 11 and under are not allowed in the group fitness studios during classes. Please secure child care before attending class. Call 952.496.6879 for more information.

  • Appropriate exercise attire and shoes must be worn. No street shoes are allowed in the studios.
  • Please wait for the preceding class to conclude before entering the studio to set up for the next scheduled class.
  • For the safety of class participants, leave personal belongings and gym bags in the locker rooms or in the cubbies provided.
  • Cellphones and pagers should be off or in silent mode. Please do not accept or make phone calls in the studios.
  • Classes are a group activity; we request that you follow the instructor’s routine.
  • All participants must be ages 14+ and fit all equipment properly to participate in group fitness classes.
  • Group fitness studios may only be used during class times. Studios are not open for general member use.
  • As a courtesy to other participants, please do not enter yoga or Pilates classes after they have started. If leaving a class early, please do so as quietly as possible.

Guests of Dakotah! Sport and Fitness Members

  • Dakotah! Sport and Fitness is a members-only facility. Members may bring in one (1) guest per visit. Members accept responsibility for the behavior of their guest.
  • All guests ages 17 and younger will need an adult with them during their stay.
  • Dakotah! Sport and Fitness requires guest registration form to be filled out on the first visit. A photo will be taken at the second visit.
  • Dakotah! Sport and Fitness reserves the right to ask for identification upon entry.
  • No guest under the age of 18 may utilize the strength or cardio equipment.

GUEST FEE RATES:

  • Ages 12 months and younger: Free
  • Ages 1 and older: $15

Gym Usage, Open Gym, and Rental

Open gym schedules are available online and our Dakotah! Sport and Fitness app, and are also posted within the facility. The gym is available for rent. Please call 952.496.6879 for more information on availability and rates.

Dakotah! Sport and Fitness does not allow coaching/personal training in any space, unless the personal trainer is a staff member of Dakotah! Sport and Fitness. Coaching/personal training apparatuses (e.g., cones, hurdles, etc.) may not be placed in any area by members or guests. Any member or guest found to be monopolizing any space will be asked to leave the area or leave Dakotah! Sport and Fitness.

Insurance Fitness Reimbursements

Please stop by the membership desk or call 952.496.6872 if you would like to sign up for any fitness reimbursement program or if you have any questions regarding reimbursements.

Junior Members

Dakotah! Sport and Fitness welcomes the participation of juniors, along with adults, in the use of the club’s facilities and programs.

All junior members ages 17 and under must be listed in the club’s membership system. Each junior member will receive a membership wristband.

  • Junior members and nonmembers ages 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • Junior members ages 9-13 must have a parent or legal guardian present in the facility at all times, with a 1:5 adult/junior ratio.
  • Junior members ages 14+ do not need a parent or legal guardian present in the facility.

Two steps will be taken if these guidelines are not followed: first, the parent or legal guardian will be notified to pick up the junior member, and second, if the parent or legal guardian cannot be located or reached, the police will be notified.

ADULT ACTIVITIES AND LEAGUES

Members must be ages 18+ to participate in adult activities and leagues, such as basketball, volleyball, racquetball, or squash, unless otherwise noted.

CHARGING PRIVILEGES

Junior members may have charging privileges placed on their membership account. Any service, program fee, or item offered at Dakotah! Sport and Fitness for purchase may be charged. DAKOTAH! BOWLING

FITNESS FLOOR

Junior members 11 years and under are not allowed on the fitness floor or second floor fitness area under any circumstances. Junior members ages 16+ are allowed unrestricted access to the equipment on the fitness floor.

Junior members ages 11-15 must attend a free annual training prior to using any of the equipment on the fitness floor. After attending this training, junior members are allowed to use the equipment on which they were trained. To sign up for junior member training, please call 952.496.6874.

Junior members ages 14-15 may gain access to the strength training equipment and free weights by testing out with a personal trainer via different strength exercises.

Any member found not following Dakotah! Sport and Fitness policies may be asked to leave the facility. Repeated violation of policies may result in termination of membership.

GROUP FITNESS CLASSES

Junior members must be ages 12+ and/or must properly fit any equipment used during the class in order to participate in group fitness classes. Junior members not participating in group fitness classes may not be brought into the studios during class times under any circumstances.

LOCKER ROOMS

Children ages 3+ are not permitted in adult locker rooms of the opposite gender. A locker room with separate changing and shower rooms is provided for your convenience.

We ask that all junior members conduct themselves in the proper manner while using the facility. Please be considerate of other members. For health and safety reasons, the use of the saunas and steam rooms are restricted to members ages 13+.

POLICY FOR THE FITNESS FLOOR

For safety reasons, junior members must be ages 16+ and proficient at using the fitness equipment to be permitted in the fitness areas, including but not limited to:

  • Cardio areas
  • Fixed weight floor
  • Stretching area
  • Second floor workout area

Junior members ages 11-15 must attend a free annual training prior to using any of the equipment on the fitness floor. After attending this training, junior members are allowed to use the equipment on which they were trained. To sign up for junior member training, please call 952.496.6874.

Any junior member that appears to be under the age of 20 using the fitness floor will be approached by a staff member to ensure safety.

Junior members ages 11 and under and nonmembers ages 18 and under are not allowed in the fitness areas under any circumstances. Dakotah! Sport and Fitness offers a second floor workout area for parents/guardians who wish to work out at Dakotah! Sport and Fitness. Please note that children must be restrained in a car seat or stroller during workouts in the second floor area—no exceptions.

POOL AREA, OPEN SWIM/LAP SWIM, AND HOT TUB

Lifeguards are on duty during posted hours only. Children 14 years and under must be supervised in the pool area at all times, and must pass a swim test in order to be unaccompanied by an adult.

Junior members must be at least 14 years old to participate in lap swim. Lap swim is reserved for those who are nonstop lap swimming. When a lifeguard is not present, lap swim is available to members ages 18+ only. For health and safety reasons, no children under the age of 13 are allowed in the hot tub.

RUNNING/WALKING TRACK

Junior members ages 16+ and nonmembers ages 18+ are permitted on the running track. Junior members 16 years and under and nonmembers 18 years and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Locker Rooms

Dakotah! Sport and Fitness locker rooms provide lockers, showers, shampoo/body wash, hairdryers, vanity areas, toilets and sauna and steam rooms (men’s and women’s locker rooms only).

Dakotah! Sport and Fitness provides private changing rooms and restrooms. People can use any facility in which they feel most comfortable. These private changing rooms, showers and restrooms are located on the lower level by the towel area as well as on the second floor of the facility by the Fitness on Demand studio. For more information, please stop by one of our service desks.

Children ages 3+ are not allowed in the locker rooms for the opposite gender.  A locker room with individual-use changing rooms and showers is provided for your convenience.  An adult must be present with any child 10 and younger in any locker room at all times.

Dakotah! Sport and Fitness is not responsible for lost or stolen personal property.  We recommend members and guests keep all items brought to the club in a locked locker and leave valuables at home.  We expect proper etiquette in locker rooms.  You may not spit, sleep, or engage in any sexual conduct in any locker room.  We request modesty at all times while in the locker rooms for the comfort of other members and guests.  You may not shave in, or use in the nude, the saunas or steam rooms.  Exercising or rubber suits and excessive clothing in the saunas or steam rooms are prohibited.  Please dispose of towels in the designated container.  Use of electronic devices equipped with a camera is prohibited in locker rooms-no exceptions.

Lockers

We offer both free and rental lockers.  Free, daily-use lockers are located in all lockers rooms.  Locker use in the men’s and women’s locker rooms require a membership wristband.  Please see the front desk or a membership associate for more information.

Rental lockers are available inside the men’s and women’s locker rooms and in the hallway outside of the locker rooms on the lower level.  Please call 952.496.6872 for more information.

Lost and Found

If you have lost an item within the club, please check in one of the lost-and-found bins located in the main lobby and in the Ice Center. Items that are more valuable, such as jewelry, wallets, and purses, will be kept at the front desk for one week. Dakotah! Sport and Fitness is not responsible for lost or stolen items belonging to members and their guests.

Manager on Duty

A manager is available to assist you during most hours that the club is open. To contact the manager, please ask any Dakotah! Sport and Fitness staff member, or call the front desk from any courtesy phone by dialing ext. 77302.

Meeting Rooms

Dakotah! Sport and Fitness does not allow meetings to take place in the common areas of the club. We have several meeting rooms that are available for rent. Please call 952.496.6882 for more information, availability, and to make reservations.

Membership Changes

UPGRADING YOUR MEMBERSHIP

  • Request must be signed by primary member.
  • Every person on the membership must live at the same address, with maximum of two adults ages 21+.
  • Cost: Pay the difference of one month’s of dues between current membership and the membership you want to upgrade to.
  • Upgrade will be effective immediately.

DOWNGRADING YOUR MEMBERSHIP

  • Requires a signed, 30-day written notice by the primary member.
  • Effective on the first of the month following receipt of a signed, 30-day written notice.

TERMINATING YOUR MEMBERSHIP

  • Requires a signed, 30-day written notice by the primary member.
  • Effective on the first of the month following a signed, 30-day written notice.

CHANGING YOUR METHOD OF PAYMENT

Fill out a method of payment form, available at the membership desk. Please note: A voided check is required for electronic bank draft.

FREEZING YOUR MEMBERSHIP IS AVAILABLE FOR:

  • Golden Age Memberships
  • Medical reasons with documentation from medical professional
  • Military reasons
  • Job loss of the primary member

Note: While your account is frozen, a $5 monthly maintenance fee will be applied for as little as 1 month up to 12 months. Your membership will unfreeze & reactivate automatically on the 1st of the designated month as your unfreeze date. Billing will resume on the billing statement dated the 18th of the month prior to the unfreeze date. Your method of payment will be charged on the 26th of the month prior to your unfreeze date.

Please Note: All changes to a membership require a written notice from the primary member. The primary member is the individual who originally signed the membership agreement and is listed first on the account.

Membership Wristbands

Each eligible person, ages 14 and older, listed on the membership agreement will receive a membership wristband. Membership wristbands are required for entrance to the club and for account charges. A $10 replacement fee will be charged for any lost membership wristband.

Personal Training

Personal training packages are available at Dakotah! Sport and Fitness for an additional fee. Please see the bulletin board in the lower level for personal trainer profile information and pricing.

No personal training/coaching may be done by members or guests. Personal trainers/coaches not employed by Dakotah! Sport and Fitness are not allowed to train/coach or solicit members or guests within the facility, with or without compensation—no exceptions. Dakotah! Sport and Fitness retains sole discretion to determine whether a member or guest is engaged in personal training/coaching.

Photography

Photography—personal or professional—and video recording on the premises is not allowed without the advance approval of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community.

Personal photography is allowed in public areas of the club only. You must have consent to photograph any other member, guest, or staff member. No photography, cameras or cellphones, or other mobile devices of any kind may not be used in photographic or video mode in any locker rooms, workout areas, saunas, steam rooms, or other private areas of the center, such as the HydroMassage or service rooms.

Pro Shop

In our Pro Shop, we offer HydroMassage beds (a dry bed that uses water pressure), and many styles of fitness clothing and convenience items. Please call 952.496.6865 for more information on any services and products.

Running/Walking Track

The running/walking track is for members ages 16+, unless accompanied by an adult. Guests of members must be at least ages 18+ to use the track, unless accompanied by an adult.

Smoking and Alcohol Policy

Dakotah! Sport and Fitness is a tobacco- and alcohol-free facility

Strength Training

  • Please be courteous at all times.
  • Rack all weights after each use.
  • Strip all bars down to zero weight after use.
  • If dumbbells or weight plates appear loose or cracked, please report the item to a staff member immediately.
  • Use a spotter when attempting maximum weight.
  • Collars and clips are to be used for “free bar” lifting.
  • Absolutely no members ages 16 and under and nonmembers ages 18 and under are allowed in the free weight area.

Telephone/Cellphone Usage

Many telephones have been placed around the facility for your convenience. Dial 9 to use an outside line. As a courtesy to other members and guests, please limit calls to three minutes.

Cellphones and other mobile devices may not be used in photographic or video mode in any locker rooms, workout areas, saunas, steam rooms, or other private areas of the center, such as the HydroMassage or service rooms. Additionally, no calls or texts should be made when utilizing cardio or strength training equipment. Please use common courtesy and step away from the workout area when using mobile devices. Dakotah! Sport and Fitness does not allow calls to be made in any area of the club if using the speakerphone function. Please step outside of the club if speakerphone is needed.

Towels

We offer complimentary towel service to our members and guests. Towels are located on the lower level across from the family locker room. Bins for soiled towels are located in each locker room, by Studio 1, and in the lower level near the towel distribution area.

Dakotahsport.com is our official website. You may log on to see department schedules, check out upcoming activities, leagues, lessons, and more!

Members may also access their online services (OLS) account through dakotahsport.com. To gain access, members need to provide an email address at the membership desk. OLS gives access to statement and transaction history, attendance reports, registration for activities, leagues, lessons, and more. For more information, please see a membership associate.

The website includes online registration for activities, leagues, and lessons. Members who wish to pay with a method other than a credit card may register at any of the service desks. For more information about registration, please call 952.445.9400.

Workout Areas

  • Please be courteous to other users at all times.
  • Please limit cardiovascular workouts to 45 minutes.
  • Allow others to “work in” on strength training equipment during your rest periods. Please do not sit on strength training equipment during your rest periods.
  • Keep hands and feet away from all moving parts and weight stacks.
  • Do NOT attempt to repair or adjust any equipment that has malfunctioned.
  • Report any equipment problem immediately to a staff member.
  • Use paper towels and cleaner provided on the workout floor to wipe off equipment or benches after each use.
