Snowy landscapes and cool temps are the perfect recipe to take a break from the mall crowds. Some of the best outdoor workouts incorporate both resistance training and cardio—check out this easy circuit (snow shoveling!) that includes a warm-up and even a little extra boost if you really want to feel the burn:

Warm Up

  • 5 minutes light jogging
  • Dynamic stretching (e.g. high knees, lunges, pushups)

3-5 Rotations of

  • 5 pullups
  • 20 reps per side of shoveling snow*
  • 20 jumping jacks

Extra

  • Go for a 15-minute hike through the snow—this is guaranteed to work your legs!

Cool Down

  • 5-10 minutes walking
  • Stretching

*Practice safe shoveling—avoid sudden twisting and turning motions, and let your legs and arms do the work when lifting.
