  • Why did you join Dakotah! Sport and Fitness?
I’ve always had some form of gym membership since leaving home for college, so when I moved here to start working for the SMSC, it just made sense to join. Being active is important to me and DSF makes that easy regardless of the weather or time of year.
  • How long have you been a member?
I’ve been a member since early 2010, so 9 years now!
  • What do you like best about Dakotah! Sport and Fitness?
I love the convenience of having my gym within a few miles of where I work. The members and staff are friendly, and I enjoy seeing the familiar faces every time I visit. It’s also great having a full-featured gym including the pool area.
  • What area(s) of the club do you use?
You can usually find me on the weight floor or the cardio room getting some miles in on the treadmill. I’ve gone through phases of swimming, playing racquetball and trying out some of the group fitness and cycle classes, but I generally stick to lifting with some cardio thrown in for balance. I also enjoy the sauna and hot tub to relax after a good workout.
  • What are your fitness or health goals and how is Dakotah! Sport and Fitness helping you attain them?
My overall goal has always been to maintain a healthy weight and just stay active which has become even more important to me now that I work in an office setting that involves a lot of time sitting down. Currently, I’m working on increasing my overall strength and cardio conditioning for some upcoming races this summer by utilizing the weight floor and treadmill and track at DSF.
  • Any tips for current or prospective members?
Be consistent and patient. If you’re just starting out, force yourself to stick with a routine until it becomes part of your lifestyle. You’re not going to see the results immediately, but if you establish a routine, I guarantee you’ll see the results eventually and that will motivate you to continue working and challenging yourself. And if you’re having trouble motivating yourself, get your friends and/or family involved! I was recently dealing with a shoulder issue and struggling to get back into my routine. I started a group fitness challenge with some of my close friends and we’ve all kept each other accountable and made significant progress.
  • Do you have a personal motto you’d like to share?
Results happen over time. Not overnight. Work hard, stay consistent and be patient.
